2016 Football Schedule Released
November 24, 2015 01:28 PM | Football
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Shane Lyons, in conjunction with the Big 12 Conference, has announced the 2016 football schedule.
“It’s good to be able to release the schedule early so that our fans have time to plan their fall weekends,” Director of Athletics Shane Lyons said. “Adding Missouri, Youngstown State and BYU to an already powerful Big 12 slate gives us one of the more challenging schedules in the country. I also like the fact that we will be able to play another game in the Washington, D.C. area, where we have a large and faithful fan base. Not only does the schedule play out nicely for our team, but also for our fans.”
Seven home dates, a neutral site contest against tradition-rich BYU at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, and four road games comprise the upcoming slate.
The Mountaineers open the season on Sept. 3 against Southeastern Conference opponent Missouri, marking the first time an SEC opponent will come to Morgantown since LSU visited in 2011 and the fourth since 2007.
West Virginia will play host to Youngstown State on Sept. 10, before having its first open week on Sept. 17. The Mountaineers will then face BYU on Sept. 24 to complete the non-conference portion of the schedule.
West Virginia’s Big 12 Conference home dates include Kansas State (Oct. 1 - Homecoming), TCU (Oct. 22), Kansas (Nov. 5 – Mountaineer Week), Oklahoma (Nov. 19) and Baylor (Dec. 3).
Road conference games include Texas Tech (Oct. 15), Oklahoma State (Oct. 29), Texas (Nov. 12) and Iowa State (Nov. 26).
“Having seven home games and a non-conference lineup that includes BYU and Missouri, our schedule shapes up for another exciting year of Mountaineer football,” WVU Coach Dana Holgorsen said. “The non-conference schedule is difficult and the conference portion lays out well with alternating home and away games. It will definitely be a challenge for our program.”
The times and television schedule will be announced at a later time. All dates are subject to change.
