WVU Trails 24-7 at Halftime
October 03, 2015 01:56 PM | Football
Baker Mayfield passed for 212 yards and two touchdowns and the Sooner offense kept the Sooner Schooner pretty busy by rolling up a 24-7 halftime lead over 23rd-ranked West Virginia.
Mayfield fired touchdown passes of 17 yards to tight end Mark Andrews and 28 yards to Sterling Shepard, backup running back Joe Mixon rumbled 35 yards for a second-quarter TD and Austin Seibert tacked on a 40-yard field goal to provide OU’s 17-point cushion.
West Virginia’s lone TD came early in the second quarter when Rushel Shell bounced in from the five. WVU was the beneficiary of four Oklahoma penalties that made up more than half of the Mountaineers’ 86-yard scoring drive.
Oklahoma used an assortment of blitzes to keep West Virginia’s offense off-balance. Quarterback Skyler Howard completed seven-of-16 passes for 84 yards and the Mountaineers finished a penalty-plagued first half with 157 yards.
Oklahoma, which had 296 first-half yards, will get the ball to begin the second half.
