Terri Howes is responsible for providing administrative oversight of WVU's women's basketball and varsity sports, serving as the primary sport administrator for 12 sports (women's basketball, rifle, rowing, men's soccer, men's swimming, women's swimming, women's tennis, women's cross country, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track and volleyball).
Howes represents the University as Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) on Big 12 Conference and NCAA Governance groups. She also serves as the Department's equity Title IX liaison.
Serving on several national committees over the years, Howes is currently the chair of the NACDA Learfield Directors Cup Committee. She also has served on the NCAA Administrative Cabinet, the NCAA Championships and Competition Cabinet and the NACDA Executive Committee. In 2015, Howes was recognized as one of the nation’s top 10 Senior Woman Administrators by College AD, an athletic administration networking website.
While at WVU, Howes has served as an NCAA staff liaison for women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics championships. She also has acted as an NCAA peer reviewer. At the conference level, Howes has served on several sport committees, including women's basketball, women's soccer, men's soccer, rowing, volleyball and swimming & diving (chair). Her administrative service included executive, finance and championships competition committees.
Prior to assuming her duties at WVU, Howes was a member of the University of Wyoming staff from 1989-98. Howes served as associate athletics director/SWA, where she oversaw scheduling and contracting, budgets, Title IX compliance and event coordination for varsity sports. She also assisted in compliance and rules education, student services, promotions and marketing and served as Wyoming's representative on a number of university, Western Athletic Conference, NACDA and NCAA committees.
A Morgantown native, Howes is a 1985 WVU graduate with a degree in sport and exercise studies; she also earned a master's degree in sport management from WVU in 1989. While at WVU, she served as a graduate assistant to the NCAA champion rifle team.
Howes resides in Morgantown with her daughters, Blake and Jordan.
