Tyler Hancock has been a member of the Mountaineer coaching staff as the senior analyst (special teams) since 2019.
Hancock organizes, implements and maintains all aspects of game analysis, including direct oversight of the game planning for special teams. He analyzes game film and formulates game plans to assist the coaching staff with game preparation. He oversees the football analysts and the quality control graduate assistant coaches.
Hancock came to West Virginia after serving as the special teams’ quality control coach at Maryland (2016-19). He was responsible for special teams’ duties during the 2018 season, assisted the linebackers/special teams’ coach in recruiting and daily positional needs (2017) and assisted the tight ends coach in the same manner (2016). Hancock assisted the special teams’ coach in weekly game plan preparation and was responsible for formulating the special team unit’s practice plans and assisted with recruiting the specialists.
Prior to Maryland, Hancock served as graduate assistant/video analyst, working primarily with the special teams. He spent two seasons as defensive quality control and a recruiting assistant for the Wildcats as he worked with the defensive coaches, broke down opponent and self-scout film and organized daily meeting review tapes. He also assisted in on-campus recruiting and built defensive recruiting boards.
Prior to UK, he served as the quarterbacks coach and co-passing game coordinator at Kentucky Wesleyan College and was the assistant quarterbacks coach for one season at his high school alma mater, Lexington Catholic.
He played quarterback for the Knights and was a member of the 2005 state championship team. Hancock earned all-district honors as a senior and holds several school passing records.
A Lexington, Kentucky native, he graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan in 2012 with a degree in communications.
