Ryan Dorchester is in his fifth year as the director of player personnel and 14th year overall with the West Virginia football program.
In his current role, Dorchester serves in an administrative capacity, overseeing the organizational aspects of recruiting and managing the personnel of the current members of the program. He serves as the liaison to coach Dana Holgorsen on all recruiting issues. He coordinates Holgorsen’s recruiting efforts, including correspondence and in-person visits. He maintains status of scholarship offers, recruiting targets and commitments and updates the staff on recruiting issues. He also communicates eligibility and admissions status with prospective student-athletes and coaching staff.
He is the liaison with the University admissions office, is the primary contact with the athletic compliance office regarding recruiting and oversees the correspondence with prospects and high schools to facilitate the admissions process.
Dorchester also coordinates the coaches’ travel schedule for recruiting and oversees and organize the program’s records, checklists, calendars, research and recruiting boards. He monitors the recruiting expenses and budget and assists the director of football operations with the overall budget, including planning, purchases and monitoring expenditures.
Dorchester manages player personnel issues such as eligibility status and tracks participation and position depth. He also assists the Associate Athletic Director/Football with individual student-athlete concerns and ensures student-athletes housing and financial aid process is completed.
He started working with the Mountaineer football program in 2004 as a student equipment manager and served in that capacity for four years. He then was a graduate assistant for recruiting and assisted with the day-to-day operations of the program’s recruiting efforts.
Dorchester earned his bachelor’s degree in history from WVU in 2008 and his master’s degree in higher educational leadership in 2010.
He, and his wife, Leslie, have a daughter, Gracelyn Jean.
