Chris Schultheiss is the associate director of sports medicine for Mountaineer football since 2019, working primarily with the Mountaineer football program. He started his tenure at WVU in 2014 as an assistant athletic trainer.
He assists with the day-to-day care, rehabilitation and prevention of athletic injuries for the football program. He also has duties as an instructor in the WVU athletic training education program.
Schultheiss came to WVU after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Rutgers for three years. He provided individualized clinical rehabilitation, treatment and injury prevention with sport supervision of wrestling and assisting with football, as well as communicating with team doctors and specialists.
He also served stints as an assistant athletic trainer at Vermont (2010-11) and American (2006-10) and was the head athletic trainer at Catholic (2002-06) and Elizabeth City State (2000-02).
Schultheiss earned his bachelor’s degree from James Madison in 1998 and his master’s degree from Temple in 2000. He holds certifications as a clinical instructor, a certified athletic trainer, CPR/PR-AED by the American Red Cross and is certified with the Graston Technique. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Morgantown.
