Will Payne serves as the primary athletic trainer for the baseball team and assists with the volleyball team after coming to West Virginia University in the summer of 2016.

Payne’s responsibilities include day-to-day care, rehabilitation and injury prevention for the WVU baseball program. He also oversees and assists a graduate assistant working with the Mountaineer volleyball team.

Payne brings a wealth of experience to Morgantown, including working with football and baseball teams at LSU that won SEC titles and the Clemson baseball team that won an ACC Tournament championship.

Payne comes to West Virginia after earning his masters in human resource development from Clemson University in August of 2016. In two seasons with the Tigers, he worked with the rowing program from 2014-15 and the baseball team for the 2015-16 season.

While earning his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from LSU, Payne worked with the football team in 2011-12, the baseball team in 2012-13 and at a local high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2013-14. In the summer of 2013, Payne also interned with the Washington Redskins during training camp.
