MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior pitcher Maxx Yehl and sophomore second baseman Gavin Kelly each collected a pair of first-team All-America honors by the College Baseball Foundation and D1Baseball.
For Yehl, it is his fifth and sixth All-America honors this season, giving him unanimous status, the first Mountaineer since JJ Wetherholt in 2023. He was previously named to the first team by Perfect Game, second team by NCBWA, and third team by ABCA and Baseball America. Yehl is the third Mountaineer to have at least six honors in one season, joining Wetherholt and Alek Manoah in 2019.
It is the fourth and fifth All-America honors for Kelly, making him a consensus All-American. It is the first time he has been named to a first team this year after being on the second team by Baseball America, Perfect Game, and NCBWA. Kelly is the fifth Mountaineer to be named to at least five All-America teams in a single season, joining Yehl, Wetherholt (2023), Manoah (2019), and Chris Enochs (2019).
Kelly and Yehl now give the Mountaineers seven First-Team All-Americans in program history and it is the first time that WVU has had multiple first-teamers in the same season.
Yehl finished the season with a 9-3 overall record while leading the Big 12 with a 2.13 ERA. He struck out 112 batters in 97.0 innings while walking just 26 and limiting opponents to a .222 batting average. In addition to his All-America honors, Yehl was also named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and the NCBWA District Two Co-Player of the Year.
Kelly led the Mountaineers in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.382), home runs (19), RBI (63), runs (70), OPS (1.202), slugging percentage (.725), and on-base percentage (.477). His 19 home runs matched a single-season program record, set by Jedd Gyorko (2010) and Mark Landers (1994). This season, Kelly has also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, District Two Co-Player of the Year, and was named the NCAA Morgantown Regional Most Outstanding Player.
