WVU Welcomes Marshall for Mountain State Derby Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 7-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team plays host to in-state rival Marshall on Sunday, Sept. 6. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Sunday's match is a Gold Rush, and all fans are encouraged to wear gold to help create an electric atmosphere. It's also our Alumni Game, as we welcome back more than 50 alumni to celebrate 30 Years of WVU women's soccer.
Single-game tickets are available to purchase in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $12 each. Any remaining tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors at the stadium ticket window on match day.
New for the 2026 season, all student tickets for WVU's Olympic sports will transition to mobile delivery. Students will now be required to log in to their WVUGAME.com account to reserve a student ticket for each home athletics event. For Olympic sports, there is no request process. Students will simply log in to their account using the single sign-on functionality, navigate to the sport of the event they would like to attend and reserve a ticket.

West Virginia enters the match with an undefeated 4-0 record. The Mountaineers have outscored their opponents 8-2 so far this season, while the WVU defense has held all four opponents to three shots on goal or fewer in each match. Of note, the Mountaineers are 16-0-3 in their last 19 regular season matches, dating back to Aug. 28, 2025.
Sunday's matchup marks just the sixth all-time meeting between West Virginia and Marshall. The Mountaineers hold an undefeated, 5-0 advantage in the series. The two programs met in Huntington last season, marking the first meeting between the two teams since 2011. WVU secured a 2-0 win over the Thundering Herd last year, with goals from Maya Leoni and Ajanae Respass. West Virginia and Marshall met for the first time in 1998, which also resulted in a 2-0 Mountaineer win.
Rafa Simoes is in his third season as the head women's soccer coach at Marshall, leading the Thundering Herd to a 3-1-1 record so far in 2026. Wiktoria Mikrut leads the Herd's offense so far this season with four goals, one assist and nine points. In goal, Emma Durand has registered 16 saves on the year.
