
Mountaineers Travel to Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team heads to the Lone Star State for the second time this season to take take on Texas Tech for three games. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, Saturday for 3 p.m. ET, and Sunday for 2 p.m. ET.

The Mountaineers are 22-7 overall this season and are coming off a 12-2 victory over in-state rival Marshall on Wednesday. WVU is in third place in the Big 12 at 8-4 after going 1-2 against first-place UCF last weekend.
Sophomore Gavin Kelly leads the Mountaineers with a .417 batting average and 31 RBI. Graduate student Sean Smith leads the team with five home runs while Kelly and senior Matthew Graveline both have four to their ledger. Kelly also leads the Big 12 with 15 doubles.
On the mound, redshirt junior Maxx Yehl has a 2.30 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 43.0 innings, both leading the team among qualified pitchers. Freshman David Perez has a 3.38 ERA and a team-high six saves while graduate student Reese Bassinger has a 2.96 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 24.1 innings, the most on the team among relievers.

The Red Raiders boast one of the best offenses in the nation, leading the NCAA in batting average (.359), hits (415), and doubles (96) while being second in runs per game (10.6). However, their pitching staff is at the bottom of the Big 12 with a 7.21 ERA.
