
Mountaineers Set to Battle In-State Foe Marshall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team travels down to Huntington to take on in-state rivals Marshall in a midweek contest on Tuesday, March 24. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Jack Cook Field.

This contest will be the first of three for the Mountaineers against their regional foe, and the only one being played in Huntington. The next two will be played in Morgantown on April 7, and Charleston at GoMart Ballpark on May 5.
WVU is coming off a weekend series sweep of the BYU Cougars at Kendrick Family Ballpark, in which they tallied 30 total runs in the three games. The offense was led by Paul Schoenfeld, who hit .800 (8-for-10), with five walks. WVU got another stellar outing from redshirt junior LHP Maxx Yehl, who notched seven innings of one-run ball, alongside 11 strikeouts in the series finale on Sunday.

Led by fourth-year head coach Greg Beals, Marshall was picked fourth in the Sun Belt preseason poll. The Thundering Herd are 13-9 on the season, entering Tuesday's contest.
Evan Bottone leads the team with a .415 batting average and six home runs. Bryce Blevins has led the way for the Thundering Herd on the mound, tallying a team-high 4 wins and pitching to a team-low 3.98 ERA.
