Yehl Takes Home National Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior Maxx Yehl collected a pair of national honors on Tuesday as he was named the NCBWA Pitcher of the Week and earned a spot on the Baseball America National Team of the Week.
Yehl had a dominant performance against Baylor in the series finale against the Bears. The lefty threw 8.0 scoreless innings and struck out 12 while surrendering just three singles and one walk. The dozen strikeouts were a career high for Yehl as was the eight innings pitched.
The Portville, New York native is the first Mountaineer to take home NCBWA's top weekly honor since Alek Manoah in 2019, which came after striking out 13 batters against Kansas State, the most recent time a WVU pitcher had at least 12 strikeouts in a road game until Yehl's performance against the Bears.
The Mountaineers will be back in action, March 19-21, when they host BYU. First pitch for Thursday's Coal Rush game is set for 6:30 p.m.
