
No. 21 West Virginia Faces Arizona State in First Big 12 Road Match

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 21 West Virginia University wrestling team faces Arizona State for its first Big 12 Conference road match of the season on Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, Arizona, on ESPN+.
This is West Virginia's (5-2, 0-1 Big 12) first action since it lost to No. 5 Oklahoma State on Dec. 14. Heading into 2026, there are six Mountaineers ranked in their respective weight classes by FloWrestling.
Redshirt sophomore Ty Watters (157) leads the Mountaineers at No. 2, graduate student Jett Strickenberger (125) is No. 9, freshman Gunner Andrick (133) ranks No. 16 and redshirt juniors Brody Conley (174) and Ian Bush (184) rank No. 20 and No. 23, respectively. Redshirt freshman Rune Lawrence (197) is No. 22.
Watters is the lone Mountaineer undefeated this season at 12-0. He last competed against North Carolina on Dec. 12. He is also tied for the lead with Strickenberger on the team with four ranked wins.
Conley, redshirt freshman TJ Langley and redshirt sophomore Louie Gill lead the team with 13 wins apiece. Conley is undefeated in duals (5-0) but has not wrestled since Rider on Nov. 23.
West Virginia is 5-6 all-time against the Sun Devils, earning a win last season in Morgantown, 24-13.
