MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving team hosts Villanova and Duquesne on Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.
Before the meet, 13 seniors will be honored for their contributions to the program. The program is also hosting its first duck toss to raise funds for the WVU Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital.
West Virginia recently competed at the Big 12 East Showdown in Houston. The men's team (2-1) finished third and the women's team (2-2) placed fourth.
Two Mountaineers on the women's team posted top-10 program times in events at the meet. Redshirt senior Natasha Whittall placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 54.38. That marks the seventh-fastest in program history for that event.
Sophomore MJ Gilligan also placed third in the 400-yard individual medley, posting the fourth-fastest time in program history at 4:20.64.
Last season, the women's team defeated Duquesne and narrowly lost to Villanova on senior day. The men's team beat Villanova. Both victories marked the first for head coach Brent MacDonald at the helm of the Mountaineers.
