MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After helping the Mountaineers earn a 3-2 win at No. 16 BYU, senior forward
Taylor White of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
White played a role in all three West Virginia goals last week, assisting the first two before tallying one of her own. At the time, it was an insurance goal to push WVU's lead to 3-1, but after a late Cougar goal in the 89th minute it would become a much-needed, game-winning tally.
The score against BYU marked White's 20th goal of her Mountaineer career. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native leads the team with four goals, six assists and 14 points so far this season.
Additionally, the win marked WVU's first over a ranked foe since Nov. 6, 2022, when it topped No. 17 TCU to win the 2022 Big 12 Tournament. It also is the program's first ranked win on the road since Nov. 16, 2019, at No. 25 Georgetown. Additionally, the Mountaineers handed BYU its first Big 12 Conference loss at home since joining the league in 2023.
After four straight games on the road, West Virginia finally returns home this week to begin a three-game swing in Morgantown. The Mountaineers open the homestand against Arizona on Thursday, Oct. 2. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. ET, and it's West Virginia's annual Pack It Pink match in support of the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
