MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (12-0, 0-0 Big 12) kicks off conference play on Saturday, Sept. 27, traveling to Cincinnati. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. ET, inside Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Wednesday's match marks the 19th meeting between the Bearcats and the Mountaineers. Cincinnati leads the all-time series, 15-3 which dates back to 1981. Last season, Cincinnati swept the season series, both 3-0 wins.
Last time out, West Virginia concluded non-conference play at the Dolphin Volleyball Classic in Jacksonville, Fla., where they swept Florida A&M, Jacksonville and Jacksonville State.
WVU broke the program record for best start in season history, which was 10-0 in 2021 and 2013.
West Virginia ranks top three in eight different categories in conferences. They are tied for first in win percentage, second in aces per set (1.98), hitting percentage (0.306), opponent hitting percentage (0.152), team service aces (85), and team total blocks (116.0). They are third in blocks per set at 2.70.
Senior setter
Alexis Finnvold is second in the conference with 21 service aces, as well as fourth in aces per set at 0.49. Junior middle blocker McGath and senior middle blocker
Laila Ibrahim are both top ten in total blocks, with 51 and 49, respectively.
Danijela Tomic is in her first season at the helm of the Bearcats, with a 8-3 record. Cincinnati enters Wednesday's match with a 8-3 record and 0-1 in Big 12 play this season, losing their conference opener at UCF on Sept. 24th.
