MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University offensive lineman
Wyatt Milum was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round of tonight's NFL Draft taking place in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
He was the 89
th overall choice.
Milum continues a recent trend of Mountaineer offensive linemen selected in the draft, beginning with tackle Colton McKivitz in 2020 and continuing with center Zach Frazier last year.
Prior to the draft, ESPN.com listed Milum as the 169
th-best overall prospect and the 11
th-best offensive guard.
During his four-year career at West Virginia, Milum started 43 of 47 games at offensive tackle and was part of a Mountaineer offense that rushed for more than 140 yards in 27 of the last 29 games. Over the last three seasons, West Virginia rushed for 200 yards or more 18 times and 300 yards or more six times.
The Kenova, West Virginia, resident did not allow a sack in 34 of his final 36 games, including a two-year stretch without giving up one.
As a senior, he was a Consensus All-American, earning first team All-America honors by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America, College Football Network, Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report.
The Associated Press, Phil Steele, FOX and USA Today tabbed him a second team All-American.
In NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein's profile of Milum, he called him "tough, strong and assignment oriented."
According to Zierlein, Milum "possesses the frame and mentality of an NFL player. It's hard to get excited about his prospects as a tackle due to his shorter arms, but there is no reason to believe Milum can't bump inside to guard and offer tackle depth in a pinch.
"He plays with heavy hands in pass protection and has ideal instincts to sniff out twists and stop them in their tracks," he added. "He's hard to bull rush or push around in the running game, but he will slip and slide off sustain blocks at times due to a narrowing base. His physical profile, play strength and football intelligence could have him ready as an early starter for gap-scheme teams."
The draft concludes on Saturday with rounds four through seven.
