UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team fell on the road at Penn State, 3-2, Tuesday evening at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Mountaineers' 14-game winning streak comes to and end as they go to 34-5 on the season while the Nittany Lions improve to 25-14.
 
Sophomore Spencer Barnett went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. Senior Brodie Kresser reached base twice and scored a run while junior Skylar King collected two hits.
 
On the mound, freshman Benjamin Hudson made his first career start and suffered the loss, giving up one run in 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Mac Stiffler struck out three in 2.0 hitless innings while junior Carson Estridge had three punchouts in a scoreless inning of work.
 
Penn State took an early lead with a solo home run in the first. The score remained the same until the fifth when the Nittany Lions tacked on two unearned runs.
 
Barnett got WVU on the board in the seventh with his fourth home run of the season to get the Mountaineers back within one.
 
Stiffler and Estridge kept West Virginia in the game with their late-inning work on the mound. The Mountaineers had the tying run on second base in the ninth but could not bring him home.
 
The Mountaineers will be back this weekend for a Big 12 series at UCF. First pitch on Friday, April 25, from Orlando is set for 6 p.m.
