MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team defeated James Madison, 11-1, in eight innings, Tuesday evening at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers improve to 17-1 while the Dukes fall to 7-13.
 
The win was the 150^th for the Mountaineers at Kendrick Family Ballpark since opening in 2015.
 
Senior Grant Hussey hit the 40^th home run of his career and drove in three runs. Redshirt junior Chase Swain drove in two while four others drove in one. Junior Sam White finished the game with a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
 
The bulk of the scoring came in the first inning as the Mountaineers put up eight runs. A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and walk preceded a two-run single from Swain. An error brought home the fifth run before Hussey belted a three-run home run the other way.
 
James Madison got a run in the third while the Mountaineers were held quiet until the sixth, scoring a run on another bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. A sacrifice fly from sophomore Michael Perazza in the seventh got WVU in double-digits before freshman Jorge Valdes ended the game via run-rule with an RBI single in the eighth.
 
Freshman Mac Stiffler earned the win, striking out three in 3.0 innings. The Mountaineer bullpen of freshman Benjamin Hudson, junior Robby Porco, junior Ben McDougal, and junior Luke Lyman tossed 5.0 scoreless innings. The first three relievers each punched out one while Lyman struck out the side in the eighth.
 
The Mountaineers were 10^th in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings at 6.64 entering the game and lowered that tonight as the five pitchers combined to allow just three hits.
