MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Justin Heimes posted a top-three time in program history as he placed fourth in the men's 100-yard backstroke at the 2025 Big 12 Championships at Weyerhaeuser Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington, on Friday.
 


Heimes touched the wall at 46.07, marking the third fastest time in that event in program history. This also marked the second consecutive season that Heimes placed fourth in the 100 backstroke at the conference championship.
 
In the women's 200-yard butterfly B final, sophomore Maddie Smutny placed first with a final time of 1:59.02. She remains fifth in program history for that event.
 
In the B final of the men's 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Erik Petruzzi swam the eighth fastest time in program history as he placed fourth for the Mountaineers.
 
At prelims, sophomore Ian McKinney also recorded the ninth fastest time in program history in the men's 200-yard butterfly (1:47.95).
 
In the diving well, freshman Levi Hellmann and sophomore Owen Recker scored personal bests on the men's platform. Recker won the consolation final with a final score of 351.20. Hellmann placed second with 308.80 points.
 
Saturday marks the last day of the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. Prelims begin at 1 p.m. EST and finals begin at 9 p.m. Both sessions will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
