
West Virginia Sweeps Cleveland State, Mount St. Mary's

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team swept Cleveland State and Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader on Saturday at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
West Virginia (4-4) ended a four-match losing streak with a 4-2 win over Cleveland State and a 4-0 victory against Mount St. Mary's.
The Mountaineers won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over the Vikings before settling into a back-and-forth match. Graduate student Julie Bousseau kept things rolling for WVU in singles play, winning the No. 2 seed match, 6-4, 7-5.
However, the Vikings quickly rallied and won the next two singles matches to tie the match at two. A pair of freshmen put the Mountaineers in control for good.
Morgantown native, freshman Lyla Byers, had a dominant performance in the No. 5 seed match, defeating CSU's Filippa Frogner, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo battled with Ella Franz in the No. 4 spot, falling in the first set, 7-5. Villanueva Morillo persevered as she won 6-3 in the second set and clinched the match for WVU, winning 6-4 in the third set.
West Virginia then faced Mount St. Mary's. WVU did not skip a beat against the Mountaineers from Maryland as it earned the doubles point to lead, 1-0.
In singles play, redshirt junior Maja Dodik dominated Ryan McCarthy, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Susannah Su defeated Emma Kaden, 6-1, 6-1.
Villanueva Morillo sealed the deal for WVU as she won, 6-0, 6-2, against Kaajal Ramisetty.
