MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17 West Virginia University wrestling team lost to No. 22 North Carolina, 27-7, at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Friday.
West Virginia (5-1) dropped its first dual of the season, with only two wrestlers picking up wins.
Redshirt sophomore No. 1 Ty Watters (157) remains undefeated on the year after he narrowly beat No. 33 Laird Root by decision, 6-3.
Freshman Leo Contino made his dual debut for the Mountaineers at 174 pounds. He dominated Marcus Murabito, winning by major decision, 10-0.
