MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Goalkeeper
Marc Bonnaire of the No. 8 West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.
In a 2-0 win over No. 6 Georgia Southern, Bonnaire made three saves to secure his fifth shutout of the season. His biggest save came in the 25
th minute when just after WVU took the lead, he stopped a point-blank shot to keep the momentum on the Mountaineers side.
It is the second time in Bonnaire's career that he has taken home the honor with the first coming back on Oct. 11, 2022. It is the fourth time overall that a WVU player has won Defensive Player of the Week along with
Thijs Veldhorst earlier this season and
Carlos Hernando on Sept. 12, 2023.
Bonnaire and the Mountaineers will be back on the pitch on Friday, Oct. 10, to take on Coastal Carolina. Kickoff from the CCU Soccer Complex in Conway, South Carolina is set for 7 p.m.
