MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams host the West Virginia State Games on Saturday, Oct. 4, at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
There will be two sessions, with session one beginning at 10 a.m. and session two starting at 4 p.m.
West Virginia began the season at the Florida State University Invitational as the men's and women's teams each placed third. For their performances, three swimmers earned Big 12 Conference weekly awards following their performances at the Florida State University Invitational.
Freshman Jake Salcedo was named the Big 12 Men's Newcomer of the Week after he placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:30.02). Freshman Caden Oprandy and freshman Macey Larson each earned honors as well for their performances.
Sophomore MJ Gilligan was the only Mountaineer on either team to win an individual event as she won the women's 400-yard individual medley (4:22.05) while swimming the seventh fastest time in program history for that event.
Senior Gabriela Martin was dominant at the FSU Invite, placing second in one event and also finishing third in three events.
This will be the first meet of the season with the full roster competing for WVU, as the FSU Invite was an abbreviated roster for each team that competed.
