West Virginia's Javon Small (player) and UCF's Keyshawn Hall (newcomer) earned Big 12 men's basketball weekly awards after big scoring nights through games ending Jan. 19.
Small scored 27 points in the Mountaineers' 64-57 win over No. 2 Iowa State, with 12 of those points coming in the final two minutes of the game. The South Bend, Indiana native added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as West Virginia picked up its third top-10 win of the season, tied for the nation's most. The senior guard added a 13-point outing with eight assists against No. 10 Houston. For the week, Small averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists as he was named the Conference's top player for the second time in three weeks and third time this season.
Hall had the first 40-point game in a Big 12 game since 2021, adding seven rebounds and six assists to his total in a 95-89 win at Arizona State. The junior George Mason transfer started the game 6-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-5 from beyond the 3-point line as he finished by shooting 72.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent on 3-pointers. His 40 points were the third-most by a UCF player in a Division I game and the most by any Big 12 player in a Conference game since Oklahoma State's Cade Cunningham on Feb. 27, 2021. The guard from Cleveland, Ohio had 11 rebounds against No. 10 Houston and scored a go-ahead layup with 9.8 seconds to play to give UCF a late 68-67 lead in a game the Knights lost by one point. It is his first Big 12 weekly award.
