TUCSON, Ariz. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team concludes its two-game swing through the state of Arizona with a matchup against Arizona on Sunday, Sept. 29. Kickoff at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium in Tucson is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. MST.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+, while live stats from the game also are available at WVUsports.com.
Sunday's matchup marks just the second-ever meeting between West Virginia and Arizona, as the Mountaineers own a 1-0 record over the Wildcats. WVU tallied a 2-0 win in the two teams' inaugural matchup on Sept. 10, 2004, in Morgantown. Sunday's contest will be the first between WVU and U of A to take place in Tucson, as West Virginia is on its first-ever trip to the state.
Last time out, WVU remained undefeated in Big 12 Conference play and earned a 2-1 victory over Arizona State at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe on Sept. 26. Moving to 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2016, the Mountaineers used corner-kick opportunities to their advantage to tally the win. Senior defender Annika Leslie took both corners and found teammates Gianna Koss and Ajanae Respass in the box for the set-piece scores. Respass scored the second goal, which was credited as the eventual game winner.
Respass is pacing the WVU offense this season with six goals, four assists and 16 points. Fifth-year senior midfielder Lilly McCarthy is tied with Respass for the team lead in assists, while White and Rodriguez are tied for second place on the squad in goals with four apiece. In the Big 12 Conference, Respass leads the league with three game-winning goals this season.
Becca Moros is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats. Arizona enters Sunday's matchup with a 7-3-1 record this season, including a 2-2 mark in Big 12 play. The squad is coming off a 2-0 win over Cincinnati on Sept. 26. Nicole Dallin leads the ASU offense with five goals, two assists and 12 points on the season. In goal, Olivia Ramey has notched 29 saves with a 0.50 goals-against average this year.
