
Green Eclipses 1,000 Career Kills Mark on Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (3-5, 0-0 Big 12) fell to Virginia, 3-1 and ETSU, 3-1 on Friday at the Liberty Tournament in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The day was highlighted by senior outside hitter Hailey Green who surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark versus Virginia. Green notched eight kills against the Cavaliers and had a season best performance against ETSU, earning 14 kills on a .462 hitting percentage. The outside hitter now boasts 1,019 career kills.
The Mountaineers were downed by Virginia on Friday afternoon with scores of 31-29, 16-25, 21-25 and 19-25. The matches first set tied for the Big 12 highest scoring set this season.
Junior middle blocker Laila Ibrahim collected a pair of career highs versus the Cavaliers, with 16.5 points and 15 kills. Junior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton dished out her fifth career double-double versus UVA with 13 kills and 12 digs. Additionally, sophomore setter Alexis Finnvold added her fourth double-double with 26 assists and 15 digs.
ETSU took the match over West Virginia in four sets on Friday evening, with scores of 21-25, 25-16, 21-25 and 19-25. Green led the court in kills, totaling 14 on a .462 clip.
It was a night for the WVU defense, as graduate student libero Sydney Reed led both teams with 20 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Maddy McGath added four total blocks, while Ibrahim collected two. Tanton notched 12 digs, while Finnvold and graduate student setter Lauren DeLo added eight, respectively.
Next, West Virginia will face off against Liberty on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Sunday's match will be held inside the Liberty Arena in Lynchburg, Virginia. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
