
West Virginia Heads to Liberty Tournament

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) continues road competition with the Liberty Tournament on Sept. 13-15 inside the Liberty Arena in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Mountaineers are set for a doubleheader on Friday versus Virginia at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a match against ETSU at 4 p.m. WVU concludes the weekend on Sunday, facing off against Liberty at 1 p.m.
Sunday's match against Liberty will be the only game streamed throughout the weekend on ESPN+, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
WVU finished 1-2 at the NDSU/UND Tournament on Sept. 6-8, defeating North Dakota State, 3-2 on Friday evening. The Mountaineers dropped a four-set match to Northern Iowa, 3-1 on Saturday night and concluded the weekend against North Dakota with a 3-2 loss on Sunday.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton leads the squad with 86 kills, along with 12 service aces. Tanton collected her fourth career double-double versus North Dakota on Sunday, with 22 kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore setter Alexis Finnvold added a career high on Friday, dishing 47 assists against North Dakota State. Additionally, sophomore middle blocker Maddy McGath led WVU in blocks, collecting seven versus Northern Iowa on Saturday.
Friday's match against Virginia marks the ninth meeting between the Cavaliers and Mountaineers, as West Virginia leads the all-time series, 5-3. WVU meets up with ETSU for the eighth time on Friday evening, as West Virginia lead the series, 6-1. Sunday's match up against Liberty will be the programs 12th meeting, as the Mountaineers lead the series, 7-4.
