MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fifth-year senior midfielder AJ Rodriguez of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named to the 2024 Preseason All-Big 12 Soccer Team, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
A native of Austin, Texas, Rodriguez has been a mainstay of the Mountaineers' starting lineup across the last two seasons, starting all 23 matches in 2022 and all 19 in 2023. She also has logged more than 1,000 minutes in each of the last two seasons.
Entering her fifth and final season at West Virginia, Rodriguez boasts eight goals in her career, including a team-high tying five tallies in 2022. She also has assisted three goals during her Mountaineer career.
In 2022, she was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, as well as the Big 12 All-Tournament Team after helping WVU claim its fifth Big 12 Championship title. She went on to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Third Team.
Texas Tech and TCU led the way with four Preseason All-Big 12 selections each, while Arizona State, Colorado and UCF earned three honorees. The Preseason All-Big 12 Team was selected by the league's 16 head coaches, and they were not allowed to vote for their own players.
