MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University is buzzing today!
Activities are already underway leading up to Saturday's big clash with eighth-ranked Penn State inside Milan Puskar Stadium.
The Pat McAfee Show kicks things off at noon outside the Life Sciences Building on the downtown campus with an estimated 10,000 people expected to be in attendance. Earlier this month, the former West Virginia University and NFL standout announced that he was bringing his popular daily sports show to campus for the first time.
During his Thursday show, McAfee announced a guest list that includes former Mountaineer greats Pat White, Owen Schmitt and basketball standout Deuce McBride, now playing for the New York Knicks.
West Virginia head coach Neal Brown, quarterback Garrett Greene and WVU vice president and director of athletics Wren Baker will also be making appearances during the two-hour telecast from noon to 2 pm on ESPN2.
The final hour of the show streams live on YouTube.
Meanwhile, across town in Almost Heaven Village, located between the Light Blue and Teal Parking lots, construction of FOX's Big Noon Kickoff set and party area is complete in advance of tomorrow's Big Noon Kickoff Pregame Tailgate, which begins at 9 a.m.
FOX announced Wednesday that popular recording artist Machine Gun Kelly will be performing during the pregame show. His new single, "Lonely Road," which features artist Jelly Roll, is set to the theme of "Take Me Home, Country Roads."
Pregame activities include DJ Amy Robbins, free Wendy's prizes, collectible t-shirts (while supplies last), celebrity guest appearances, photo booth and sign-making stations, LED cowboy hats for the first 500 fans and an opportunity to win free tickets and pregame field passes to Saturday's game.
The live show, with award-winning host Rob Stone and college football analysts Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Mark Ingram II and coach Urban Meyer, begins at 10 a.m. leading into Saturday's noon kickoff.
FOX's No. 1 crew of Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt and Jenny Taft will be calling Saturday's game.
In anticipation of the influx people in Morgantown this weekend, Monongalia County schools are closed "due to anticipated traffic congestion." The decision was made after consulting the MECAA 911 Center and local law enforcement.
Saturday's game is the most anticipated season opener since West Virginia played host to top-ranked Ohio State in 1998.
Penn State is making its first appearance in Morgantown since 1992.
Saturday's game has been announced a sellout.
