MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A trio of West Virginia University pitchers were selected on day two of the 2024 MLB Draft on Monday.
 
Right-handed pitcher David Hagaman was taken by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round with the 133^rd pick while right-handed pitcher Aidan Major was scooped up by the Cleveland Guardians in the fifth round with the 146^th pick. Left-handed pitcher Derek Clark rounded out the day for the Mountaineers as a ninth-round selection, 262^nd overall, by the Los Angeles Angels.
 
The three join JJ Wetherholt, who was drafted No. 7 overall by the St. Louis Cardinals, as Mountaineers to be drafted this year. Overall, they are the 109^th, 110^th, and 111^th Mountaineers to be chosen in the MLB Draft all time, including 41 during coach Randy Mazey's tenure (2013-2024).
 
The Mountaineers have had at least one player taken in 11 of the last 12 years and all but four drafts since 1984. WVU has also had multiple players taken in the first-year player draft 10 of the last 11 years, the only exception being the five-round 2020 draft.
 
It is the first time in WVU baseball history that three players have been selected in the first five rounds of the MLB Draft as well as four players in the top 10 rounds. It is also the first time since 2021 that the Mountaineers have produced four draft picks.
 
In two years with WVU, Hagaman went 3-5 on the mound with a 4.66 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched while holding opponents to a .202 batting average.
 
In 2023, Hagaman was named a NCBWA Freshman All-American as well as Honorable Mention All-Big 12.
 
Major was a consistent presence on the mound over three years with WVU, going 12-6 with a 4.93 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 142.1 innings pitched.
 
He was named an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2023 as well as the Academic All-Big 12 team as freshman in 2022.
 
Clark made the most of his one year in Morgantown as he went 8-3 with a 3.23 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 97.2 innings pitched. He was also second in the nation with four complete games.
 
The southpaw collected a bevy of honors in 2024 including third team All-American by NCBWA and D1Baseball, ABCA First Team All-East Region, and All-Big 12 First Team. Clark was also named the Tucson Regional Most Outstanding Player and a Division I Rawlings Gold Glove recipient.
