MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seniors
Danny Berlitz and
Justin Heimes of the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team will compete at the 2024 United States Olympic Team Trials from June 15-23, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
"To compete at the Olympic Trials is an incredible accomplishment," head coach Brent MacDonald said. "It will be exciting to see Danny and Justin compete against the best in our sport this week. I know they've prepared themselves for this challenge and they will bring their A-game all week."
Berlitz will compete in both the 200 and 400-meter individual medley. Berlitz qualified for the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.36 and the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.46.
Heimes will compete in the 100-meter backstroke event as he qualified with a time of 55.48.
Berlitz became the first Mountaineer to win gold in the 400-yard IM (3:43.02) event at the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships. He set two program records at the conference championship meet in the 200-yard freestyle (1:35.55) and the 200-yard IM (1:43.94).
Heimes placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (47.03) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.64) at the conference championship meet.
Berlitz and Heimes will compete on Sunday, June 16, in qualifying at 11 a.m. ET. Berlitz will also compete in the 200 IM on Thursday, June 20. Finals will take place at 8 p.m. on both days.
Qualifying will stream live on Peacock. Finals will be aired on NBC and streamed on Peacock.
