
Mountaineers Set to Host No. 17 UCF

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team welcomes No. 17 UCF to Kendrick Family Ballpark for a weekend series, April 12-14. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., Saturday for 4 p.m., and Sunday for 1 p.m.
All three games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and can be listened to on the Mountaineers Sports Network on all radio affiliates as well as the Varsity Network, WVU Gameday App, and WVUSports.com.
The Mountaineers currently sit atop the Big 12 standings at 8-4 along with Oklahoma after sweeping Kansas on the road last weekend. West Virginia is coming off a midweek extra-inning loss at Marshall to drop to 19-13 overall.
Senior Derek Clark is 3-0 on the mound and leads the Mountaineers with a 1.70 ERA. He is coming off a complete-game shutout against the Jayhawks and was named the Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week.
Junior Aidan Major will get the start on Friday night and currently leads the team with 55 strikeouts. In his last home start, he struck out 13 in 8.0 innings against Oklahoma State.
Junior Grant Hussey and senior Reed Chumley are tied for the team lead with eight home runs this season. Hussey has 33 home runs for his career, just two shy of the WVU all-time record.
Led by Head Coach Rich Wallace in his first year, UCF is 21-9 in 2024. They are currently ranked No. 17 in the country, the highest among all Big 12 teams.
In conference play, the Knights are 8-7 after taking two of three from Kansas State last weekend.
Matt Prevesk leads the team with .365 batting average while Andrew Estrella has a team-high six home runs.
On the mound, Chase Centala leads the Knights with a 2.61 ERA and seven saves.
