MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia outfielder Victor Scott II is set to make his major league debut on Thursday, March 28, as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA as part of MLB's Opening Day.
"[Victor Scott II] is the starting center fielder," Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said on Tuesday morning. "If he's here, he's going to play. He's here to play. I'm extremely excited to watch him."
Given a non-roster invite to Major League Spring Training, Scott showed how he went from the Cardinals No. 29 to No. 4 prospect in a year's time in the MLB Pipeline rankings.
In 13 Grapefruit League games, Scott hit .316 with one triple, five walks and four stolen bases. He also shined on defense, using his speed to make several dazzling plays.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Cardinals, Scott played 163 games in the minors. In his first full professional season in 2023, playing with both the Single A+ Peoria Chiefs and Double-A Springfield Cardinals, he hit .303 with nine home runs, 10 triples, 20 doubles and led all levels of baseball in stolen bases with 94.
