
No. 68 West Virginia Earns First Big 12 Win with Victory Over Cincinnati

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 68 West Virginia University tennis team defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats, 7-0, at Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown on Friday.
With the win, West Virginia (12-5, 1-4 Big 12) earned its first Big 12 victory of the season, and just the third conference win in program history. West Virginia also has its most wins in a season since it won 17 in 2010.
West Virginia opened the day winning the doubles point. The pairing of graduate student Ting-Pei Chang and junior Tatiana Lipatova was dominant in the No. 3 seed match, winning 6-1.
West Virginia earned the point when the pairing of freshman Maya Bordereau and redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik won in the No. 2 seed match, 6-4.
After a strong performance in doubles play, the Mountaineers kept things rolling in singles.
Junior Michaela Kucharova was dominant against Cincinnati's Sakurako Watanabe in the No. 4 seed match, winning, 6-0, 6-2. Graduate student Love-Star Alexis earned her first singles win of Big 12 play with a 6-2, 6-4, victory in the No. 1 seed singles match.
Freshman Maya Bordereau locked up the victory in the No. 2 seed match for the Mountaineers, winning 6-2, 6-4.
