
Mountaineers to Battle Houston, No. 62 UCF in Big 12 Matches

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 71 West Virginia University tennis team will face Houston on Friday, March 22, at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts and No. 62 UCF on Sunday, March 24, in Morgantown.
West Virginia (12-5, 1-4 Big 12) looks to capitalize off its first Big 12 win of the 2024 season when it faces the Cougars and Knights. This will be the second all-time meeting between West Virginia and Houston, and just the third all-time meeting between WVU and UCF.
The Mountaineers currently sit in ninth place in the Big 12 standings. UCF is in 10th place and Houston is at the bottom of the standings in 14th place.
With its victory against Cincinnati, West Virginia has its most wins in a season since it won 17 in 2010. The Mountaineers have also earned Big 12 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since joining the conference in 2013.
Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik is 11-4 in singles play to lead the Mountaineers. Senior Momoko Nagato is the only other Mountaineer with double-digit wins, as she is 10-4 this season.
As a team, WVU is 56-36 in singles play.
In doubles play, the pairing of freshman Maya Bordereau and Dodik continues to roll along at 10-2 this year. The doubles team comprised of junior Michaela Kucharova and Nagato has played well in the No. 1 spot as the pairing is 8-3.
As a team, WVU is 24-18 in doubles play.
