MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
Student-athletes from the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team had an impressive showing on the first day of the United States Open Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday.
Redshirt senior
Danny Berlitz led the Mountaineers as he qualified for the A Final in the men's 200-yard individual medley. He placed fourth in the A Final, touching the wall at 1:45.80.
In the B Final, freshman
Joey Stebbins placed third (1:47.87), and redshirt sophomore
Christian Simpson placed eighth (1:50.62).
In the men's 50 freestyle, senior
Conner McBeth finished 0.03 seconds off a personal best as he placed second in the B Final (19.85).
The Mountaineers return to competition on Friday in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke.
