WVU Heads to No. 12 TCU to Begin Two-Game Road Swing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team heads back on the road for its final two-game road swing of the regular season, beginning at No. 12 TCU on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kickoff at Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
The match will be broadcast on ESPN+, while live stats from the game also are available at WVUsports.com.
Thursday's contest marks the 18th meeting all-time between West Virginia and TCU, as the Mountaineers hold a 10-4-3 lead in the series. Last season, the Horned Frogs secured a 5-1 win over the Mountaineers on Sept. 24, in Morgantown. WVU and TCU met twice in 2022, first playing to a 1-1 draw in Fort Worth on Oct. 6. The squads then met in the 2022 Big 12 Championship Final on Nov. 6, where West Virginia walked away with its 18th conference title.
The Mountaineers have scored multiple goals in nine of the two teams' 17 meetings, including five consecutive multiple-goal matches from 2014-17.
Of note, WVU is seeking its 400th program win against the Horned Frogs on Thursday.
West Virginia is coming off a 1-0 win over UCF in Morgantown on Oct. 4. After a scoreless first half, fifth-year senior midfielder Lilly McCarthy took advantage of a penalty-kick chance in the 55th minute to put the Mountaineers on top. Although McCarthy's initial penalty try was saved, she got her foot on the rebound to send it into the net for the score. The final box score was indicative of the close match, with the Mountaineers just outshooting UCF, 14-11, including 6-4 in shots on goal.
Junior forward Ajanae Respass is pacing the WVU offense this season with six goals, four assists and 16 points. McCarthy is tied with Respass for the team lead in assists, while McCarthy, fifth-year senior midfielder AJ Rodriguez and junior forward Taylor White are tied for second place on the squad in goals with four apiece.
Eric Bell is in his 13th season at the helm of the TCU women's soccer program. The Horned Frogs are 9-2-2 this season, as well as 4-0-2 in Big 12 play. They are coming off a dominating 6-1 win at No. 14 Colorado on Oct. 5. Seven Castain paces TCU's offense with nine goals and 21 points this year. Goalkeepers Olivia Geller and Megan Plaschko have split time between the posts this season, putting together a combined 0.85 goals-against average and 0.725 save percentage.
