MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Big 12 Conference, has announced the 2024 football schedule.
"It's great to have the return of seven home games to the football schedule and for Penn State's to come to Morgantown for the first time since 1992," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "When you add our nonconference games to the Big 12 slate, WVU once again will play a strong, competitive and challenging football schedule."
The schedule includes seven home dates, featuring five conference games and nonconference matchups against Penn State and FCS opponent Albany in the first two weeks of the season.
"Our schedule will be exciting, not only our fans, but the Morgantown community, and having seven home games for the first time since 2016 provides us the extra home date that we have not been able to enjoy recently," WVU coach Neal Brown said. "Playing Penn State and Pitt in the same season used to occur every year around here, and I know our fans have appreciated having those two rivalries back on the schedule."
The season opener marks the first time the Nittany Lions have visited Morgantown since 1992. The third-longest series in Mountaineer history will be played for the 61st time. Albany advanced to the FCS semifinals in 2003 and will visit Milan Puskar Stadium for the first time.
The Backyard Brawl returns to Acrisure Stadium for the second time since the rivalry was renewed in 2022. It's the 107th meeting in the longest-running series in WVU history. The Mountaineers have won eight of the last 13 games in the series, dating back to 2002, including four of the last six. WVU won last year's meeting at home, 17-6.
A trip to Arizona marks the first meeting between the schools, and Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State all make a return to the schedule.
The Kansas State game on Oct. 19 is Homecoming and Mountaineer Week will be celebrated during the Baylor game on Nov. 16.
West Virginia's Big 12 Conference home dates are Kansas (Sept. 21), Iowa State (Oct. 12), Kansas State (Oct. 19), Baylor (Nov. 16) and UCF (Nov. 23). Road conference games are Oklahoma State (Oct. 5), at Arizona (Oct. 26), Cincinnati (Thursday/Friday/Saturday, Nov. 7/8/9) and Texas Tech (Nov. 30).
The top two finishers in the regular-season standings will compete for the conference title in the Big 12 Football Championship Game, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The times and television schedule will be announced at a later date, and all dates are subject to change.
New season tickets for the 2024 campaign are on sale now. Season tickets are priced at $399, a savings of more than 15% off the single-game price, for the Mountaineers' seven home games. To purchase new season tickets, CLICK HERE.
