MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Game week is finally here!
West Virginia opens the 2023 season at seventh-ranked Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 2, in the renewal of longtime Eastern football series that was played 59 times between 1904 and 1992.
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on NBC. The anticipated crowd for Saturday's season opener could top the 107,305 fans who witnessed Penn State's 2022 lidlifter against Ohio University.
If so, it will be the fourth time West Virginia has played in front of a crowd exceeding 100,000. The other three were at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, and the Mountaineers won two of those contests.
A busy week begins today with the Neal Brown Press Conference Show at 1 p.m. on select radio stations throughout West Virginia and streaming live on the Varsity Network app and WVUsports' Facebook and X sites.
Select WVU players and coordinators Chad Scott and Jordan Lesley will be made available to the media early Monday afternoon and those interviews will be posted on WVUsports.com and our official YouTube channel WVUsports. Subscribe and click the notification bell to have those videos sent to your computer.
A player feature will post Tuesday afternoon on WVUsports.com.
Tony Caridi's exclusive one-on-one interview with coach Neal Brown for the United Bank Playbook will post on Wednesday, along with our extensive game preview.
Thursday on WVUsports.com, veteran MSN radio analyst Dwight Wallace will give us his version of The Run – Major Harris' 26-yard, wrong-way touchdown in the first quarter of West Virginia's 51-30 victory over Penn State on Oct. 29, 1988. This year marks the 35th anniversary of that unforgettable play.
Later Thursday evening, the Neal Brown Radio Show will take place at Kegler's Sports Bar and Grille and will air from 6 to 8 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia and online via the Varsity Network app.
Friday afternoon, look for Andrew Caridi's weekly Mountaineer Insider Podcast right here before the busy week concludes on Saturday morning with Countdown to Kickoff leading into nine hours of continuous Mountaineer Sports Network radio coverage.
Plenty of unique game content will also be made available on West Virginia's official social media platforms.
