MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia pitcher David Hagaman has been named to the NCBWA Freshman All-America Second Team after a standout first season with the Mountaineers.
Hagaman, a redshirt-freshman, appeared in 22 games for WVU this season with one start. He was a reliable arm in the bullpen as he finished the year with a 3.52 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched.
The Egg Harbor City, New Jersey native held opponents to a .174 batting average which lowered to .156 in Big 12 play. He turned it on late in the season as he had a 14.1 inning scoreless streak against opponents such as TCU, Oklahoma, Pitt, Texas Tech, and Texas in April and May.
Hagaman is the 10th Mountaineer in program history to be named a freshman All-American and just the fourth by the NCBWA, joining Jedd Gyorko (2008), Kyle Davis (2015), and Darius Hill (2016).
