MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Andrew Caridi goes around the horn with MSN baseball radio analyst Jake Weghorst and MSN contributor John Antonik to preview this weekend's NCAA Tournament regional at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
No. 2-seeded West Virginia will face No. 3 seed Indiana on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET. Top seed and 12th overall seed Kentucky will meet No. 4 seed Ball State in the first game of the day at noon.
The Mountaineers posted a 39-18 in the regular season while the Hoosiers are 41-18.
It is the 14th appearance in a regional for the Mountaineers and first since they hosted in 2019. For head coach Randy Mazey, it is the third time he has led WVU to a regional having also done so in 2017.
Sophomore JJ Weterholt was named the Big 12 Player of the Year after hitting .443 with 15 home runs, 22 doubles, 56 RBI, and 66 runs scored. He has also stolen 35 bases and is one of just two players in the country with 15-plus home runs and 35-plus stolen bases. The Mars, Pennsylvania native was also recently named a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball News and is a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy.
