TUCSON, Ariz. – After winning the first two games of the series against Arizona, the West Virginia baseball team was unable to complete the sweep, Sunday afternoon, falling to the Wildcats, 15-5. The Mountaineers drop to 4-3 on the season while Arizona improves to 4-3.

Sophomores JJ Wetherholt and Grant Hussey each hit home runs for the Mountaineers while freshman Sam White went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman Ellis Garcia and sophomore Tyler also added RBIs.

Wetherholt gave WVU an early lead with an opposite-field home run, his second of the weekend and seventh hit in the three-game set. He also stole two bases to give him 12 for the season.

The lead did not last long, however, as Arizona's offense was rolling from the start, scoring runs in each of the first six innings on 20 hits with their biggest inning coming in the fifth, breaking the contest open with a six-spot on the scoreboard after the Mountaineers had cut their deficit to three.

Despite a rough outing from the Mountaineer pitching staff, sophomore Chris Sleeper and freshman Maxx Yehl were bright spots in the bullpen with two hitless innings to end the game.

West Virginia will stay in Arizona for one more game tomorrow, an exhibition against the Diamondbacks in Scottsdale at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 p.m. EST.
