Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team fell to Clemson, 1-0, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, on Thursday night.
The lone score in the contest came on a West Virginia own goal in the 10th minute, as Mountaineer senior defender
Gabrielle Robinson attempted to deflect a Clemson corner kick. From there, WVU (3-2-2) was forced to play from behind for most of the match and struggled to break even with the visiting Tigers (4-1-2).
West Virginia had the chance to tie it in the 67th minute when senior midfielder
Maya McCutcheon drew a foul in the box, but fifth-year senior defender
Jordan Brewster was unable to convert on the penalty-kick attempt.
Despite the end result, the final box score showed the Mountaineers outshooting Clemson, 10-5, including a 6-1 edge in the second half. The two teams tied, 4-4, in shots on goal, while the Tigers held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Both goalies were called upon to make four saves, with Clemson keeper Halle Mackiewicz making a big stop on Brewster's PK try.
McCutcheon and junior midfielder
AJ Rodriguez paced the offense with a pair of shots apiece, while four different Mountaineers placed one shot on goal.
