ROUND ROCK, Texas – Senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey of the West Virginia University women's soccer team was named the 2022 Big 12 Co-Goalkeeper of the Year, while four others earned All-Big 12 distinction, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Massey becomes WVU's first goalkeeper of the year in program history, while she is West Virginia's first conference player of the year since fifth-year senior defender Jordan Brewster was recognized as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2020. Massey also joins 10 other Mountaineers all-time who have earned player of the year distinction from the Big 12 Conference.
Additionally, Massey and Brewster were named to the All-Big 12 First Team, as Brewster collects her fifth career All-Big 12 honor and her third consecutive first-team distinction. Massey was named to the All-Big 12 First Team for the first time in her career, after earning her first All-Big 12 honor on the second team last season.
Senior defender Gabrielle Robinson, junior midfielder AJ Rodriguez and sophomore forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran also were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Heredia-Beltran earns second-team distinction for the first time in her career, while it is her second All-Big 12 honor after being named to the all-freshman team in 2021. Robinson and Rodriguez garner the first accolades of their careers.
An Ottawa, Ontario, native, Massey has started all 19 matches in goal this season, playing all 1,710 minutes of total action. She has tallied seven shutouts in 2022, moving her career total to 17. She has started every match for which she has been available and leads the team with 8,869 career minutes. The North Canton, Ohio, native made her 96th career start in West Virginia's regular-season finale on Oct. 27, setting a new program record for career starts. A three-time co-caption, Brewster has netted a pair of goals and an assist this season, with both goals credited as game winners and her assist coming on a game-winning goal in the final match of the regular season.
Additionally, Brewster was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the third consecutive season earlier this year, and she is a five-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.

Robinson also tallied her second career goal this year, giving the Mountaineers a much-needed equalizer in the 84th minute of a 1-1 draw at Oklahoma State on Oct. 20.
Rodriguez became a consistent member of WVU's starting lineup for the first time this season, starting all 19 matches. The Mountaineers' leading goal scorer in 2022, she has netted five goals to sit No. 2 on the team with 10 points on the season. A native of Austin, Texas, Rodriguez tallied her first career brace when she propelled WVU in a come-from-behind, 3-2 win at Oklahoma on Oct. 23.
