WVU Jumps to No. 4 in National Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's National Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
Following a 0-0, double-overtime draw against Loyola (Maryland) on Sept. 6, and a 1-0 win over Ohio State on Sept. 10, the Mountaineers enter the week with a 4-0-1 overall record on the year. The ranking marks the highest WVU has been slotted in the College Soccer Coaches poll since being voted No. 4 on Oct. 31, 2006.
The top-three schools in the poll remained unchanged this week, as Georgetown once again earned the top spot, while Clemson and Washington were voted No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Along with WVU, Pitt rounded out the top five.
Marshall checked in at No. 6 this week, ahead of No. 7 Akron, No. 8 Maryland and No. 9 New Hampshire. Tulsa rounded out the top 10.
Along with the Mountaineers and Zips, Mid-American Conference member Bowling Green also received votes this week.
Additionally, West Virginia moved up to No. 6 in the College Soccer News poll, while staying put at No. 10 by TopDrawerSoccer.com, which were both released on Monday.
The United Soccer Coaches rankings set up a top-10 matchup on Friday, Sept. 17, as WVU travels to No. 6 Marshall for an in-state showdown in Huntington, West Virginia. Kickoff at Hoops Family Field is set for 7 p.m. ET.
