West Virginia Peach Bowl Victor, 14-3

ATLANTA, Ga. – West Virginia installed a new wishbone offense and rode an all-time, single-game rushing performance by Eddie Williams to victory over confused South Carolina in the rain-soaked 1969 Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
Williams scampered for 208 yards on 35 carries following his surprise start at fullback in place of Jim Braxton. Coach Jim Carlen's Mountaineers responded to the alterations as quarterback Mike Sherwood tried but two passes all night.
Bob Gresham picked up 98 yards to become West Virginia's all-time, single-season rushing leader. The Mountaineers amassed a gaudy 346 yards on the ground as they ran, and ran, and ran.
All-America middle guard Carl Crennel led a stalwart Mountaineer defense that prevented the Gamecocks from scoring a touchdown.
Crennel had a fumble recovery to go with his teammates' two interceptions as West Virginia equaled its high for victories in one season and ran its bowl record to 4-2.

SC - Bill Dupree 37 field goal
