MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 20/23-ranked West Virginia University men's soccer team holds its annual Gold-Blue intrasquad scrimmage on Monday, Aug. 19, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Parking and admission to the contest are free for all fans.
Monday marks the Mountaineers' second of three preseason competitions leading up to the 2019 season opener at Monmouth on Aug. 30. Last Friday, WVU opened its preseason slate against Virginia Tech. West Virginia also is scheduled to take on Mount St. Mary's in preseason action on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Waldron Family Stadium in Emmittsburg, Maryland.
Following a 14-win campaign in 2018, the reigning Mid-American Conference regular-season champion Mountaineers return nine players who started at least 15 matches last fall, including two-year starting goalkeeper and 2018 All-MAC First Team selection Steven Tekesky. WVU, which went a perfect 5-0 in conference play, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the first time since 2011.
Along with the junior netminder, WVU returns senior defenders Albert Andres-Llop, Pascal Derwaritsch and Ryan Kellogg and senior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino, all of whom were named All-MAC Second Team selections last year. In all, the Mountaineers are led by a group of seven seniors.
Additionally, West Virginia is set to welcome back 29 of its 41 total goals and 10 of its 13 goal scorers from last season.
