MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Former West Virginia University kicker Pat McAfee has joined the ESPN college football Thursday night crew and will be providing color commentary for games beginning this fall.
McAfee's move was reported Monday by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McAfee recently signed a contract to work with WWE last December and was serving as co-host NXT TakeOver before working the Packers-Lions NFL game for FOX.
He also spent time collaborating with Barstool Sports where he formed the Pat McAfee Show Podcast, which he still produces regularly.
McAfee played eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, making the Pro Bowl twice, before retiring in 2016. He was a standout punter and place kicker for coaches Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart during his four seasons performing for the Mountaineers from 2005-2008, playing on WVU's Sugar, Gator, Fiesta and Meineke Bowl championship teams.
The Plum, Pennsylvania, resident told Schefter that he considered a return to the NFL but chose to remain in the sports media profession instead.
"I am so excited and ecstatic to get in the booth," McAfee said. "I've only been in the booth twice, but I've had the time of my life in there. When I didn't get Monday Night Football, I was a little disappointed; thought about getting back into the kicking game."
He will be teamed with Adam Amin, Matt Hasselbeck and Molly McGrath on Thursday night broadcasts, and he also be making regular appearances on the ESPN morning show "Get Up."
McAfee will get an opportunity to breakdown his alma mater on Thursday, Oct. 31, when West Virginia plays Baylor in Waco, Texas.
