MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following three weeks off from competition, the West Virginia University rowing team travels to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on Sunday, May 19, to compete at the 2019 Big 12 Championship.
Action from the Big 12 Championship is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET, starting with the third varsity four exhibition. Fans wishing to follow Sunday's championship action can watch via the Big 12 live stream and follow along with the conference's live stats link.
"Race day is almost here, and final prep is pretty much done," said coach Jimmy King. "Now's the time to put together our best racing of the season."
For the fifth consecutive year, the Big 12 Championship will be held on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge and be hosted by the Tennessee Volunteers. WVU is set to compete against Big 12 foes Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas, as well as affiliate members Alabama and Tennessee.
West Virginia is set to compete in five events at this year's conference championship. The Mountaineers will compete in the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, first varsity four, second varsity four and third varsity eight races.
"Each of our crews will have a primary focus specific to their needs, whether technical or mental in nature, but their ultimate success will lie in trusting themselves in order to truly perform at their best," King added.
The 2019 Big 12 Champion will receive the conference's automatic big to the NCAA Rowing Championship at the Indianapolis Rowing Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the end of the month.
A recap of Sunday's championship action will be available on WVUsports.com.
